Typeface Design

Gothic Rose

CHALLENGE

To design a generic typeface that was completely designed from scratch, using fontstruct.com. I designed “Gothic Rose” to be a distinctive language within itself that was both beautiful and sharp throughout each letter. The content chosen was from the song “Say Something” by A Great Big World. I chose this song because I felt it was appropriate for the project at hand.

Artist Documentation & Book Design

Leif Podhadjsky

CHALLENGE

To design a magazine layout that announced an artist showing work in the Walker Art Gallery. I designed this man-made book to be personalized towards Leif Podhadjsky and the work he has produced. I created a variety of angles that lead consistently throughout the pages, encouraging my readers to keep turning the page. The book includes articles written about the artist and the work he has created.

Unspoken Landscape

Dyptic

Medium: graphite, sharpie, charcoal, and ink

Size: 60″ x 24″

This gestural piece was designed with an abundance of specific mark making to create a landscape that was both idealized and abstract. The bottom piece is a reflection of the top, but creates the idea of an even more gestural design and movement of flowing water.

Zentangle

Medium: Sharpie

Size: 20″ x 30″

This piece was an experiment of pattern design. I wanted to convey a different flow of movement through different stroke widths and detailed marks. This zentangle was produced though the idea of brainstorming and sketching.

Leopard’s Diamond

Medium: graphite and coffee

Size: 18″ x 24″

The combination of two magnificent subjects compliment each other when realism and abstract come together. I wanted to allude their significance with highly contrasted materials and strokes of how each element was drawn. Together, the elements of the diamond, the head of the elegant leopard, and the splatter of tinted brown produce a very beautiful and authentic piece of attraction.
